New Reasearch Shows that Red Onions Kill Mesothelioma Cancerous Tumor Cells

It is a pleasure to report a new research in the ever wonderful field of natural medicine.  A compound in red onions, quercetin (Qu) was found to cause “apoptotic cell death.” in mesothelioma tumor cells.  Quercetin (Qu) is also found in other foods, such as apple skins, tea, fruits, vegetables and some grains.

Researchers in Korea discovered this new remedy and the study was published in International Journal of Molecular Study.

The research was done at the Department of Dental Pharmacology, School of Dentistry, Brain Korea 21 Project, Chonbuk National University, Jeonju 561-756, Republic of Korea.

Here is what the study reported:

Abstract
Quercetin (Qu) is found in plants, including red onions and in the skins of red apples, and induces the apoptosis of certain malignant cells. However, no report has been issued on the apoptotic effect of Qu on human malignant pleural mesothelioma.

In the present study, it was found that MSTO‑211H mesothelioma cell viability was reduced and apoptotic cell death was increased by Qu (20-80 µM), which was found to have an IC50 of 58 µM. In addition, Qu increased the sub-G1 cell population, and was found to interact with specificity protein 1 (Sp1) and significantly suppressed its expression at the protein and mRNA levels.

Furthermore, Qu modulated the levels of Sp1 regulatory genes, such as cyclin D1, myeloid cell leukemia (Mcl)-1 and survivin in MSTO-211H cells. Apoptotic signaling cascades were activated by the cleavage of Bid, caspase-3 and PARP, and by the downregulation of Bcl-xL and the upregulation of Bax in MSTO-211H cells.

Our results strongly suggest that Sp1 be considered as a novel molecular target of Qu in human malignant pleural mesothelioma.

The study showed that Sp1 be considered as a novel molecular target of Qu in human maligant pleural mesothelioma.

What is Pleural Mesothelioma?

The malignancy affects the pleura, a thin membrane composed of the lubricating cells which line the chest wall and the lungs.

As it sometimes takes a decade or more for the disease to manifest, some notable changes that are indicative of pleural mesothelioma, is thickening or calcification of the pleural lining. This disease first causes diminished lung function and quickly spreads to the outer chest wall, abdomen, and heart.

The treatment includes ways for patients to manage the mesothelioma through tumor management and make the patient live more comfortably.

Pleural Mesothelioma is a very aggressive type of cancer and this new study is a "God Send" for many.  But is it really enough to eat some red onions?

Using Common Sense

The use of onion juice has been used for many years to cure cancer and this is nothing new.  Natural cancer remedies show that by juicing onions and drinking an egg cup worth daily before breakfast will cure cancer.

Sheik Nazim of Cyprus, has long touted that this will cure cancer and also suggests seclusion.  But there are many more who suggest this remedy too.

If you want to use the red onion cure as done in the above study, then I suggest you use it as a part of your cancer healing protocol.  A healthy diet, exercise and the use of Nigella Sativa is suggested as the best way to cure any cancer.  Nigella sativa has been proven to cause cell death also in pancreatic tumor cells in 82% of the cases.  So in other words, 82 out of 100 people lived.

Normal Mesothelioma Death Statistics

Approximately 3000 new mesothelioma cancer cases will be diagnosed every year.  Of those 3000, using conventional healing methods, such as chemotherapy and radiaton, there is a 5 year survival rate of between 5% to 10%.

So this means that 2700 of the 3000 people diagnosed will probably die.  More and more people are switching to a natural protocol.  Besides Nigella sativa, there are other natural herbs seen successful in the treatment of mesothelioma cancer, such as mistletoe.
